Shimanami Kaido

The Shimanami Kaido, a 60-kilometer cycling route connecting 8 islands with 9 bridges in the Seto Inland Sea, is renowned by CNN TRAVEL as one of the “World’s Most Wonderful 7 Cycling Routes.” and cyclists from around the globe are drawn to its charm. The primary allure of the Shimanami Kaido lies in the ability to enjoy cycling while taking in the breathtaking beauty of the Seto Inland Sea’s picturesque islands at their own pace.
So, while cycling along, immerse yourself in the exhilarating experience of discovering the hidden gems of the Seto Inland Sea.

Dōgo Onsen (hot springs)

Dōgo Onsen is Japan’s oldest hot spring with a history of over 3000 years. Located in the Dogo Onsen annex, you can experience a special bath that faithfully replicates the unique Imperial bathhouse, ‘Yushinden.’ by wearing Yuchou (bathing Yukata) while enjoying your bath. Soak in the colorless and transparent waters, known for their therapeutic and beautifying properties, to rejuvenate during your travels.
After refreshing yourself in the hot spring, take a leisurely walk to Dogo Hikara-dori (Dogo Shopping Arcade), just a 5-minute stroll from Dogo Onsen Main Building. Here, you can explore souvenir shops and savor local delicacies, adding yet another layer of enjoyment to your visit.

Kure

Kure, a city that once thrived as a naval port. It boasts various spots associated with the former Japanese Navy, including the Yamato Museum, where a 1/10th scale replica of the legendary battleship "Yamato," once touted as the world’s largest, is on display. In the harbor, you can even find submarines from the Maritime Self-Defense Force, adding to the unique atmosphere that sets it apart from other cities. It’s a place where you can immerse yourself in the romance of the Maritime Self-Defense Force, dedicated to safeguarding the sea, and truly feel it firsthand.

UNESCO World Heritage Site—Mt.Misen

Within Miyajima, the majestic Mt. Misen, with its peak reaching 535 meters above sea level, is revered as the divine embodiment of Itsukushima Shrine. You can reach the summit through a combination of a ropeway ride and trekking, taking approximately one hour one way. Along the way, you'll encounter mystical spots such as the ‘Reika-do’ (Hall of the Sacred Fire) housing the ‘Eternal Flame,’ passed down for over 1200 years—the original fire of the ‘Flame of Peace’ at the Peace Memorial Park. From the summit, you’ll be greeted by a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the Seto Inland Sea and its stunning islands, unobstructed by anything. The journey is truly captivating.

Itsukushima IROHA

Originally established over 140 years ago, this historic ryokan underwent a complete renovation and reopened in 2009 as a modern luxury inn. Located just a 7-minute walk from Itsukushima Shrine and nestled within the bustling Omotesando Shopping Street frequented by tourists, it exudes a serene and dignified atmosphere once you step inside. “The SEA Suite” boasts expansive windows on the seaside, offering a tranquil view of the Seto Inland Sea with the iconic Otorii Gate standing tall. UNESCO World Heritage Site—Itsukushima Shinto Shrine

Unparalleled in the world, the ethereal Itsukushima Shrine appears as if floating upon the sea.
The grand torii gate stands in the sea, weighing around 60 tons (aprox. 132,277 pounds), and the shrine itself was constructed over the water, and remarkably, it has never sunk in its over 850 years of history. Witnessing this scene, one can’t help but be amazed by the profound knowledge of landscape understanding and the skills possessed by craftsmen of that era.

UNESCO World Heritage Site—The Atomic Bomb Dome

At the end of World War II, this building survived miraculously the nuclear impact. In 1996, this structure was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
As nearly 80 years have passed since the bombing, striving to accurately understand its history and firmly believing in avoiding the repetition of the same mistakes, paves the path to world everlasting peace. The Atomic Bomb Dome stands resoute as the symbol of “No More Hiroshima.”

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park

The area surrounding the epicenter was transformed into a symbol of enduring peace, now known as the Peace Memorial Park.
Before the pandemic, it was primarily Americans who visited Hiroshima. A certain second-generation survivor asked his bombed grandfather “Do you have a grudge against Americans?,” and he answered “No, we mustn’t hold grudges. If we do, humanity will reciprocate.”

Kanawa

Kanawa has started the oyster cultivation business since 1867, and since then it has offered only edible raw oysters. The freshest oysters from the “Kanawa raft” located in the Seto Inland Sea near Ohkurokamijima. The oysters come from clean water that meets the strict standards of Hiroshima Prefecture.
